Actually, it turns out that because of monsoons, half of us could not leave on the plane on time. And the other half still had 5 people who were left behind for almost 18 hours in HK. As this is weather related, there was nothing anyone could do. A safe, grounded plane is better than an unstable, dangerous one. I was actually one of the five who volunteered to stay back, the others were Prof. Carr and Prof. Singh. We stayed in the HK airport’s traveler’s lounge for what seemed like forever… another part of the expat life that I was unexpectedly shown. The accommodations aren’t home, but they do have internet, a food buffet, a bar, couches and chairs, beds (outside the lounge), and even showers! Even with all these accommodations, I still wish I could be in India now..
